BuzzFeed is looking for Creators! 👀
TikTok also introduces new revenue model

Quinta Brunson’s Advice Spurs BuzzFeed to Pivot
In a time when the Creator Economy is booming and competition is fiercer than ever, media outlets are constantly seeking ways to increase audience engagement. BuzzFeed, a pioneer in digital content, is now turning to independent internet creators to revitalize the brand! Former employee Quinta Brunson sat down for an interview to answer a few “Why I Left” questions. One including “Has BuzzFeed fallen off?” in which she gave an honest answer of… yes. She went on to say that it’s only due to the fact that the internet, algorithm and platforms have changed, and so does BuzzFeed!
"It's kind of turning our model inside out," CEO Jonah Peretti explained. Instead of relying solely on internal teams for video content, BuzzFeed aims to form a "brain trust" of internal staff who collaborate with outside creators, commission content and secure brand deals. They also have a residency program for creators, where BuzzFeed provides creative partners with access to the company's tools and distribution channels in exchange for cross-posting their content on BuzzFeed's platforms.
This shift in strategy comes after the closure of BuzzFeed News, for which Peretti took much of the blame. He admitted to over-investing in the news division and depending too heavily on social media distribution. By embracing the power of independent creators, BuzzFeed hopes to adapt and thrive in this rapidly evolving digital landscape. This is a chance for you to create content for a trusted brand and reach a massive audience!

More Monetization as TikTok Expands Its Creativity Program
Despite facing threats of being shut out of the US, TikTok continues to prioritize creators and maintain its status as a fan favorite. While Instagram and YouTube are still the go-to platforms for creator revenue generation, TikTok is looking to address this disparity with the expansion of its Creativity Program.
Originally launched in February for select creators, the Creativity Program is an evolution of TikTok's Creator Fund, offering increased monetization opportunities for top creators. Now, anyone meeting the required engagement thresholds can join; those requirements include:
Have at least 10,000 followers
Produce videos longer than 1 minute
Receive 100,000 authentic views within the last 30 days.
The Creativity Program Beta is in its early stages and is still unclear how much money creators can actually make through the program. The Creator Fund, which allocates a set pool of money to creators based on video performance, has faced criticism for reducing payouts as more creators meet the requirements. As a result, creators earn less money as TikTok becomes more successful, leading to significant frustration.
Here is a list of all of the ways to be paid on TikTok.
IBM Makes the Move We’ve All Been Dreading
IBM's CEO Arvind Krishna predicts that AI and automation will replace roughly 7,800 jobs within his company, echoing a broader trend prediction from The World Economic Forum. Their ‘Future of Jobs’ report estimates that AI will replace 85 million jobs globally by 2025, although it may create 97 million new roles in the process.
IBM plans to pause hiring for roles that are deemed replaceable, particularly in non-customer-facing positions like human resources. Approximately 26,000 roles could be affected long-term, with up to 30% potentially being replaced by A.I. and automation within five years, according to Krishna. This is frightening news as some people’s passion is associated with jobs that technically can be taken away. See below the Top 10 fastest-growing and declining jobs in coming years.

IBM's recent quarterly profits exceeded estimates, in part due to expense management and previously announced job cuts. The company aims to achieve $2 billion in annual savings by the end of 2024 through new productivity and efficiency measures.
